NEW YORK — Sabine Le Chatelier, associate fashion director for Première Vision, said the fabric trends for spring-summer 2013 are all about contrasts and combinations.
“It’s about colors that glow, with novelty and surprises, but with no flashy extravagance,” Le Chatelier said. “The color palette is vivid and pristine, but also light and fluorescent.”
Expanding on the theme in a presentation and separate interview, Le Chatelier commented on:
Color
• Light naturals such as khaki and greens mixed with whitened acid tones combine ecology and creativity.
• Neons and dazzling white combined with pale tones and milky pastels offer a modern, technological twist.
• Shocking florals as well as saturated plains work well for men’s and women’s sportswear.
• Subtle blacks and creamy whites along with muted earth tones are just right for casualwear.
Science & Art
“The current economic crisis will not be fought with the usual weapons,” Le Chatelier said. “Technology and creative innovations will be the added value that drives consumer interest, a cross between scientific precision and artistic grace.”
• Full and Light: Delicate layerings play on transparencies, sketchlike garments, lightweight but constructed garments.
• Soft and natural washes, light denims, delicate basket weaves and springy wools represent fresh approaches.
• Techo-romanticism: Lace T-shirts and openwork tops, or ethereal and translucent coats for women. Fresh wools, crisp mercerized cottons, opaque synthetics and subtle knit stripes in men’s.
Contemporary Workwear
• Mixing natural and plastic materials, rough and smooth finishes.
• Linen blends with new soft or wax-finish hands.
• Tweeds, irregular knit stripes or engineered patterns in women’s; indigo stripe shirts with clean denim bottoms and relaxed jackets for men’s.
