Haspel, founded as a seasonal suit business 100 years ago, is securing its place as a year-round resource with a new outerwear line.
Produced under license by Harbour International, the outerwear range will target department and better specialty stores, and marks the brand’s continued expansion. Last year, Haspel launched dress shirt and tie programs under license, and last fall gained traction with worsted suits and a year-round suit separates program. It was historically known as a summer suit resource.
“Both our new licenses will exceed internal projections this year, and wool suits have become a significant business for us,” said James Ammeen, chairman of Haspel Worldwide. “That told me we could move into outerwear and get the customer to respond. It’s a natural extension.”
The outerwear range, launching for spring 2011, will be designed by Carlo Quintiliani, who will translate the brand’s classic American style into casual rainwear and short jackets in seasonal fabrications such as pincord and poplin. There also will be a year-round program.

Quintiliani said the range will be available in two pricing tiers — one for the department stores and the other for better department stores.
In addition to outerwear, Haspel said it was close to signing more brand extensions, which will be announced in coming weeks.
