A bit of a Coachella vibe — when it came to fashion if not the headliners — worked its way east to the sun and surf of Long Island, N.Y, for the Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater. Drawing a mainly teenage crowd enjoying an end-of-summer hurrah before the start of the new school year, the lineup included Justin Bieber (who closed out the weekend), Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Little Mix, Skrillex, Lil Wayne, Cold War Kids and Jason Derulo, while smaller acts included Zella Day, ZZ Ward and Fetty Wap. Stylistically it was desert-festival fare from head to toe: floppy hats, denim cutoffs, knee-high gladiator sandals, cool sunglasses and temporary tattoos. One last outing for the teen set’s summer uniform before classroom attire is required.
