Soccer star turned fashion impresario Tim Cahill is launching his apparel brand, Cahillplus, in China by opening an online store on JD.com, the Chinese e-commerce giant said Thursday.
Cahill, an Australian who currently plays for Hangzhou Greentown F.C. and used to play for Everton in England, designs the line with an athletic vibe. It is sold at retailers such as Topman, Glue Store, Myer Department Stores, and Culture Kings & Boys Co.
JD.com said Cahillplus’ spring collection is inspired by the Shanghai Hongkou Stadium and features Asian design touches like tiling, embroideries, quilting and coin motifs.
JD.com, which earlier this week announced a strategic partnership with Wal-Mart, featured the Cahillplus line at its fashion show during New York Fashion Week in February. JD.com is Alibaba’s largest rival and it is focusing attention on growing its fashion business. Earlier this year it snagged a deal for a Calvin Klein store on its platform.
