NEW YORK — There’s a new Page in Shiseido’s color cosmetics playbook — noted editorial makeup artist Dick Page, that is.
Page, a Brit who is currently based in New York, has been named artistic director for the brand’s signature color cosmetics collection, Shiseido The Makeup. In this role, Page succeeds Tom Pecheux, the brand’s former color creator and also a noted makeup artist.
Page assumes his new role this month. He will be responsible for the creative conceptualization and product development of the cosmetics brand, as well as the image design for the Shiseido The Makeup advertising campaign.
While new to Shiseido The Makeup, Page is no stranger to Shiseido executives. He began working with the company’s Japanese headquarters in 1997 on Shiseido’s Inoui color cosmetics line. Under Page’s direction, the line was completely revamped and relaunched in 2002 as Inoui ID.
“Dick Page has been a great partner of Shiseido over the years and we look forward to this new collaboration with him on a global scale,” said Shoji Takahashi, general manager of the international product marketing department of Shiseido’s International Business Division, in a statement. “Under his expertise, we hope to keep appealing to existing Shiseido customers while attracting a new consumer to the brand.”
Page is a fixture at the ready-to-wear collections in New York and in Europe, acting as the key makeup artist for designers such as Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Narciso Rodriguez. In the past, he has also been the key makeup artist for Gucci, Prada and Helmut Lang, among many others. He also writes a column, “The Makeup Guy,” for Allure (which, like WWD, is owned by Condé Nast Publications) and frequently works with Julianne Moore, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Iman. Advertising clients include Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu.
“I want Shiseido The Makeup to realize my absolute ideal of a makeup line and the type of products that I have always been searching for — incredible colors, the finest textures, art and science in powerful cosmetic harmony,” stated Page. “I consider this opportunity to build on my relationship with Shiseido to be a great pleasure and a privilege. Makeup is an easy, fun way to play with how you look and how you wish to be seen. Makeup creates an illusion, and I believe that embracing the idea of illusion is very empowering and hugely enjoyable.”
