Puma is bringing back a road running sneaker from the past as the company looks to continue its turnaround.
On Tuesday, the German athletic company unveiled an updated take on its archival Homura road running sneaker with bold color accents and sharp linework across the shoe. According to Puma, the new style features black contours that overlay the bright orange upper, with yellow and turquoise hits across the silhouette.
First released at the height of the Y2K era, Puma noted that the reissue of the Homura reflects an “experimental chapter” in the company’s design.

The original shoe debuted as part of the Puma Complete franchise, a series of vividly colored performance runners, the silhouette was developed as a training model featuring targeted midsole cushioning. It debuted alongside the lightweight Fuga under the “Japan Racers” project. A Japanese character stamped on the tongue and footbed, translating to flame or blaze, nods to the shoe’s name as well as the ignition point of the era’s bold approach to performance footwear.
The release comes after Puma chief executive officer Arthur Hoeld, who took on the top job in July, told analysts on the company’s first quarter 2026 conference call in April that the brand saw a “very solid start” to the year.
“We’ve made significant progress this year already in our operating model, which is necessary to build the foundation for our future growth here at Puma,” Hoeld said. “Despite the macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties, we do remain confident on our track to achieve our plans for this year and beyond.”
Overall, the company reported that sales in Q1 fell 1 percent, in currency-adjusted terms, to 1.86 billion euros. Hoeld noted on the call that declines in Q1 were offset by continued clearance of inventory, while wholesale declined due to lower demand primarily in EMEA.
The footwear division — the company’s largest category — declined 2.3 percent in Q1 due to “continued challenges in the [lifestyle models],” the CEO noted. However, he added that he’s “very encouraged by solid development” in the brand’s Nitro running franchise as well as the rapid expansion of Hyrox-related products.
The Puma Homura will be available starting May 16 at Puma.com, Puma flagship stores, and select retailers.
