Italian designer Emilio Cavallini will be launching his first luxury collection of legwear and tops called Luxury Edition by Emilio Cavallini for holiday 2011.
The allover seamless collection of six body-molding tops and 14 styles of tights are knitted on Santoni machines for an ultimate seam-free look.
“I did several pairs of luxury items last year because my customers were asking me to design something special for them between the summer and winter seasons, and the items sold out in Germany, England, Switzerland, Japan and Italy,” said Cavallini. “This is the first time I am designing a luxury collection and I believe it will be successful based on the strong reaction.”
As for why Cavallini chose the holiday season to introduce the luxe collection, he replied, “Holiday is more salable.…It’s the right time to be glamorous. People are expected to buy legwear for the holidays, for parties, get-togethers and to go clubbing.”

Cavallini said his inspiration for the luxe line was gleaned by global influences including contemporary art and technology as well as the culture and unbridled creativity of the Sixties and Seventies.
“I am modernizing retro designs,” he explained.
Special treatments include metallic and gold hand appliqués, Italian crystals, allover cutout lace treatments, textured metallic knits, metallic burnout patterns and heat-transfer metallic floral prints. Sizes are S, M and M/L. The sleeveless and long-sleeve tank tops will retail between $105 and $210 and the tights will be priced $33 to $125. Shipments commence in October.
Distribution is aimed at major specialty stores and boutiques as well as emiliocavallini.com, which has an e-commerce link, shop.emiliocavallini.com. Cavallini added that his e-commerce site, which was launched in 2009, generates annual sales of 500,000 euros, or $706,400 at current exchange.
Cavallini noted that Henri Bendel will be a key retailer in the U.S.
“We are in discussions for an in-store presentation at Bendel’s,” said Cavalliini.
Meanwhile, Cavallini is in talks with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London about an exhibit of his legwear and bodywear designs.
“The exhibit could take place in spring 2012,” he said.
Cavallini’s designs were most recently featured at an exhibit at The Triennale Design Museum in Milan in March.
