Henkel Capital S.A. de C.V., a Mexican subsidiary of the German consumer goods giant Henkel, has initiated a voluntary recall of 1,068 units of its Tec Italy Shampoo Totale due to potential contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca bacteria. Announced on Tuesday, the recall affects products distributed in the United States through distributors in New York and California, with possible further distribution to other states.
The recalled Tec Italy brand Totale Shampoo is packaged in a 33.81 fl. oz./1 L, green plastic bottle marked with Lot # 1G27542266 on the side of the bottle. The UPC code is 7501438375850.

Henkel discovered the contamination during routine microbiological analyses, which revealed the presence of Klebsiella oxytoca in some bottles. According to the CDC, exposure to this bacteria can cause pneumonia, bloodstream infections, wound or surgical site infections and meningitis, with potentially more severe reactions in individuals with compromised immune systems.
As of the announcement date, no reports of harm or injury related to the product have been received, according to the brand.
Consumers who have purchased the applicable 33.81 fl. oz./1 L bottles of Tec Italy Shampoo Totale are advised to stop using it immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
“Tec Italy seeks to minimize all inconvenience this may cause consumers and are committed to their complete satisfaction,” said the announcement of the brand.
Henkel is conducting the recall with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration‘s knowledge.
Founded in 1876, Henkel became a leader in the industrial and consumer businesses worldwide. In North America, the company’s portfolio also includes Schwarzkopf, Dial, Snuggle and Persil, among others. In fiscal 2024, Henkel reported sales of more than 21.6 billion euros and adjusted operating profit of around 3.1 billion euros.
