Berlin has become the showplace of choice for many big commercial German brands, and Marc Cain is leading the way. This season Karin Veit, the brand’s design director for nearly four decades, brought out some more subdued city looks, showing luxe double-faced coats and easy cardigans shown over frocks in lace, charmeuse and silk crepe.
But Marc Cain wouldn’t be the powerhouse it is without its statement-making looks. Thus there were skirts in megablack-and-white polka dots or stripes, shown with orange or gold motorcycle jackets; satin numbers came in large-scale photo silk-screen prints, large hydrangea and poppy motifs and animal prints — the latter, a Marc Cain must. The requisite lace and embroidery was also present, often skewing athletic such as with the white lace hoodie paired with a black sequined tank and black satin joggers.
