DALLAS — Buyers transcended the seasons and bought holiday immediates, cruise and early spring styles at Fashion Industry Gallery’s four-day market last month.
FIG, the downtown mart here that accents contemporary, bridge, accessories and denim collections, launched a juried show called Shop that featured more trendy styles from a range of vendors.
Gavin Smith, executive director at FIG, said the reaction was positive to the juried event.
Stores said they came to the show, which ended Oct. 30, with increased budgets because of brisk fall business, buying into camouflage and beaded tops, pants and skirts, as well as lace, ruffled and ruched blouses and dresses for spring.
Jackie Hoegger, owner of Vive Paris, a Wichita Falls, Tex., specialty store, scouted for trendy items that were versatile enough to be worn for more than one season. Her budget was up 12 percent, which she spent on Christopher Blue’s embroidered denim jeans to sate her customers’ desire for premium denim with a misses’ fit.
“My customers are buying the label when it comes to denim,” Hoegger said. “They don’t go for the inexpensive jeans. They’ll go for the premium jeans that cost $160 and up.”
Hoegger also bought Sweet Pea’s embroidered tops and Charlotte Tarantola’s body-conscious dresses and sportswear.
Marigail Mathis, who owns a namesake store in Florence, Ala., shopped for holiday special occasion styles and bought ruffled and embellished blouses from Pong, and casual and lightly embellished spring sportswear from Carolyne Valle and XCVI. She also ordered metallic sandals with coin detail from Richard Tyler, jeweled bracelets and Florentine leather handbags from Rachel Abrams and gold-disc earrings from Sarah Briggs.
“I really liked this market,” said Mathis, whose budget was up 10 percent. “It was a distillation of the best of the trends and very easy to shop. The lines were hip and I felt like I was in fashion heaven.”
Rory Boyd, owner of Sussie’s in Frisco, Tex., bought immediates and spring styles, including Susan Farber’s leather handbags in white, black and chocolate with distressed trim, semiprecious stone and pearl jewelry from Double Happiness and embroidered blouses and jackets from Three J Workshop.
