NEW YORK — What do you get when you combine six performers from “A Chorus Line” with several racks of dance-worthy clothes? More than one standout, that’s for sure. Take a look at the cast, and how designers are fueling the performance trend.
Alisan Porter
Role: Bebe, an “ugly duckling” who uses ballet to help her feel like a swan.
Stats: Danced in “Footloose” on Broadway. Film credits include “Parenthood,” “I Love You to Death,” “Stella” and “Curly Sue.”
On Fashion: “Every girl should spend most of her money on shoes and bags. Keep everything else simple.”
Heather Parcells
Role: Judy Turner, a daddy’s girl ready for her big break.
Stats: Has danced on Broadway in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” and in national tours for “Some Like It Hot,” “Chicago” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”
On Fashion: During “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” she worked with costume designer Martin Pakledinaz. “Marty has an amazing eye. We always wore La Perla tights with his outfits, because he preferred the texture. Now I love them, too.”
Mara Davi
Role: Maggie, a young girl from a troubled home who used to dance around her living room with an imaginary father figure.
Stats: “A Chorus Line” is Davi’s Broadway debut; played Peggy Sawyer in the U.S. and Japanese tours of “42nd Street”; appeared in regional productions of “A Chorus Line,” “Dames at Sea,” “Baby,” “Gypsy,” “West Side Story” and “Grease.”
On Fashion: A fan of Capezio and LaDuca on stage, off-duty she favors jeans, especially Seven For All Mankind, Lucky Brand and Guess.
Natalie Cortez
Role: Diana, a Puerto Rican girl whose high school dance teacher said she would never make it on Broadway.
Stats: A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts’ prestigious CAP 21 program, this is Cortez’s Broadway debut; has performed off-Broadway roles in “Sidd,” “Fame,” “The Mambo Kings” and “Cinderella,” as well as regional leading roles in “West Side Story,” “Anything Goes” and “On the Town.”
On Fashion: “My opening-night dress was BCBG Max Azria, but Express has good everyday clothes. Onstage, my favorite thing to wear is custom-made shoes from T.O. Dey.”

Deidre Goodwin
Role: Sheila, a strong, aggressive, aging woman who uses dance to escape her unpleasant family situation.
Stats: The Broadway veteran has done “Chicago,” “Nine,” “Never Gonna Dance,” “The Rocky Horror Show,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “The Boys From Syracuse.” Film credits include “Half Nelson,” “Across the Universe” and “Chicago.”
On Fashion: Goodwin describes her style as “clean and classic, not crazy trendy. I love Catherine Malandrino. When I’m rehearsing, I usually wear Capezio, Danskin or Maria Wallace.”
Tyler Hanes
Role: Larry, the confident assistant to the director/choreographer.
Stats: The Broadway regular has performed in “Hairspray,” “Sweet Charity,” “The Frogs,” “The Boy From Oz,” “Urban Cowboy” and “Oklahoma.”
On Fashion: “I don’t really dress up that much, but I really like Marc Jacobs and Hugo Boss. For auditions, I like to wear Lululemon because its clothes really complement my body. Otherwise, a good basic is always black dress slacks that stretch a little, and a fitted T-shirt that shows my upper body. I want to look like a dancer, but I still want to look like a guy.”
