MAGIC International is turning its attention to kids.
At its February show in Las Vegas, the trade-show operator will unveil Playground, a new contemporary children’s wear area. Playground will have its own designation and be housed outside of the WWDMAGIC show at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall. It will offer a “juried selection” of dual-gender labels — Splendid, Sweet Peanut, Ella Moss, Prefresh, Appaman, Urban Sunday, Orangeheat, Chaser and NUNUNU, among others — that were selected by vendors and retailers from the children’s wear industry, according to MAGIC. In total, about 100 brands, targeting age ranges between infants and tweens, will be offered in 8,000 square feet.
“Contemporary kids brands have been asking us for some time to develop a juried event for them,” said Christopher Griffin, president of WWDMAGIC. “The timing is right, and we look forward to building a show that meets the needs of this community.”

At one point in the past, the show had a section called MAGIC Kids, but that was dissolved, and the brands were sprinkled throughout the juniors area. MAGIC said there are no plans to add a distinct children’s area to its men’s shows at Mandalay Bay.
