NEW YORK — Marc Ecko Enterprises, the $1 billion urban apparel and outerwear company, has launched a brand called Red by Marc Ecko, with handbags the first category to hit the market.
The brand will offer a more grown-up version of some signature looks in the existing Ecko Red line and will eventually enter into apparel. The company’s accessories offerings include Ecko Red licensed collections of eyewear with Viva International Group and shoes with Skechers.
Red by Marc Ecko handbags, designed by Pat Anderson, president of Marc Ecko Enterprises accessories, run the design gamut from a signature logo Satire print in the Bamboo collection to leather hobo styles with embellishment such as chain detail, leather tassels and charms. Highlights from the collection include a synthetic leather drawstring tote and a cross-body bag with grommets and the signature Ecko rhino in silver.
“These bags are for a sophisticated customer who refuses to be mainstream,” Anderson said.
The line, which the firm would like to position more high-end than Guess but less expensive than Coach, wholesales from $24 to $42. It will be sold on the main floor of department stores, including Macy’s, Hecht’s and Foley’s, beginning in May.
Anderson declined to estimate sales, but said the line is already in 200 doors and added, “This will be one of the most successful launches of my career.”
