NEW YORK — Pat Ennis, longtime beauty buyer at Bloomingdale’s, will retire next month, concluding a career that has spanned more than three decades.
Ennis, who began working at the chain’s Fresh Meadows store as a department manager in July 1972, will officially step down Jan. 28.
Michael Gould, chairman and chief executive officer of Bloomingdale’s, said he expressed sadness when he heard of Ennis’ decision.
“By the example of her work ethic, enthusiasm, energy level and desire to be the best, Pat inspired others to do more than they thought they could do,” said Gould. “Pat represents the very best there is in life.”
After becoming a fragrance buyer in the Seventies, Ennis was promoted to regional manager of stores, a position she held through the Eighties. In that post, Ennis opened new Bloomingdale’s stores in Philadelphia, Washington and Chicago, all while continuing to develop the cosmetics business.
In 1991, Ennis returned to the buying office to assume her current post. She has trained, developed and mentored countless buyers, the retailer stated.
“Pat has been one of those great shining lights of Bloomingdale’s that through the years has brought a great luster to other folks who work with her and to the organization,” said Gould. “With Pat, nothing happened without what I think is the most important thing between people, and that’s trust.”
