ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS: “I wish to inform you personally about the closing of my boutique on March 30, 2015,” Véronique Leroy wrote in an email addressed to her small yet loyal clientele, which the Berçot School graduate has built up steadily since the conception of her brand in 1991.
Reached for comment by WWD, the designer explained that she received “an offer she would have been crazy to refuse” for the roughly 430-square-foot unit at 10 Rue d’Alger, a small street off the buzzing Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris.
“I had been thinking about moving to an area with more energy anyway, having spent 10 years where I am now,” she said, naming the Marais district as a possibility or setting up a pop-up to continue her retail business.
Leroy noted that although the store was profitable, business for the brand had stagnated in the last two seasons due to a challenging economic environment, and that she wished to explore other options to make her brand grow again.
