Milan — It’s not all doom and gloom in Iceland.
Nikita, Iceland’s women’s street fashion and board sports specialist, is to open its first flagship in Reykjavík on Saturday to mark its 10th anniversary, despite the country’s financial collapse.
“It feels like we are closing a full circle,” Nikita owner and self-professed board sport addict Heida Birgisdottir said. “Nikita was founded 10 years ago…just a few blocks away from where we are opening.”
The four-story boutique on Laugavegur 56, which was formerly a small private house, will open Saturday during the Icelandic capital’s annual Culture Night festival.
The first two floors will showcase Nikita streetwear and outerwear and fashion-forward line Nikita Selekzion, while the remaining space will house a creative studio for limited edition lines and hand-painted pieces and living quarters for members of Nikita-sponsored teams. The backyard, equipped with a mini ramp, will display works by street and graffiti artists.
