COLOR PALETTE: At Mugler on Friday morning, Chappell Roan’s eagle eye picked out a dress on the runway with a cutout panel at the chest featuring a phone-shaped jewelry panel, and she admired the brightly hued tones of Miguel Castro Freitas’ powerful fall collection overall. “I just like people who use color, so it was very nice to see color,” she said.
Pop royalty and other cultural icons were out in force for the first show of the day, with an eye out for showstopping outfits for upcoming events.
Paris Jackson, whose new single with Linda Perry, “Zombies in Love,” is out next week, will be playing the BottleRock Napa Valley festival this May, and may be touring later in the year, so was on the lookout, too. “Maybe I’ll find something good this week that I can bring back,” she said.

Jackson also has new music in the works. “I’m revisiting a lot of music that I really fell in love with several years ago, and I’m kind of circling back and relistening to all of it,” she said, citing indie rock outfit Bright Eyes as a particular inspiration. “We’ll be making some music in that style in the songwriting,” she said.
Chinese pop star Bibi Zhou was also in the mood for color, sporting a vivid purple draped satin gown with a pair of glittering otherworldly ear cuffs. “I love the dress because the color is so stunning,” she said. After touring last year, the singer-songwriter is currently plotting her next steps. “It’s time to take a break and do some planning,” she said. Music-wise, her current inspiration “is groovy things and sometimes maybe electro,” she said.
Naomi Watts was sporting a more common fashion accessory: a pair of sunglasses, despite the darkness of the room. “I’m just trying to be cool,” she laughed. “Also the 4:45 wake-up, I didn’t plan on that, I just woke up.” Aside from “lots of twirling and talking” during fashion week, Watts was looking forward to some down time. “There’s something about being in Paris that’s very inspiring, whether it’s walking down the street, looking at fabulous architecture, or Parisian people, or eating at great restaurants,” said the actress. “I just finished a really sweet film, the title is not there yet, with Sarah Paulson and Dianne Wiest,” she confided. “Then we start the second season of ‘All’s Fair’ in late April.”
Emma Chamberlain, in head-to-toe latex, was also looking forward to some people watching. “It’s just such a joy to just pop into a random coffee shop I’ve never been to before and just sit and people watch and sip on a nice delicious drink,” said Chamberlain, who will be opening a new coffee shop for her eponymous brand in a month or two. “I love people watching in general, just anywhere, but particularly here,” she said. “It’s like the fashion is really special and I feel like a lot of people are experimenting here in a way that is really cool. I see things I don’t see elsewhere, interesting ways of layering, unique accessories I’ve never seen before. I saw somebody wearing a Margiela boot and they had put jewelry around the boot, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
