BOSTON — Jimmy Choo will be setting a sleek, sandaled foot in Boston’s Copley Place Mall in April, continuing the city’s recent hot streak in attracting luxury retail.
“Boston is a sophisticated and diverse market,” said Tamara Mellon, brand president and founder. “We have a loyal clientele that has been shopping with us for years and we’re waiting for just the right location to better serve our existing and potential clients.”
The 1,520-square-foot space, designed to look like a Forties boudoir with satin paneling and crystal-drop chandeliers, is the upscale footwear and accessories brand’s first store here.
Shoes, including the label’s signature sky-high evening sandals, will account for 70 percent of the mix, with handbags, some priced as high as $11,000 for crocodile, taking up the balance.
The boutique sits between Gucci and Hugo Boss on Copley Place’s ground-floor luxury corridor, also home to Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior.
The space is being vacated by Grettaluxe, a local independent, which also carries Jimmy Choo shoes. Grettaluxe is moving to the other end of the Copley property, near the Westin Hotel, to adjoin a sister business, Grettacole Spa.
The $100 million Jimmy Choo is on a major expansion campaign that calls for five new U.S. stores, and 14 total worldwide.
Jimmy Choo’s opening will be one in a whirl of retail parties set for Boston this spring. Valentino is opening a Newbury Street boutique in April, and Barneys New York is planning an all-out bash, including a musical act, for its early March debut in Copley Place.
