NEW YORK — Goody’s Family Clothing Inc. said Monday Frederick J. Mershad was appointed president and chief merchandising officer, effective immediately.
Knoxville, Tenn.-based Goody’s said Mershad will report to Robert M. Goodfriend, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, and will oversee merchandising, marketing and advertising, as well as merchandising planning and allocation. The position of president and chief merchandising officer was last held by Lana Cain Krauter, who resigned in October 2002.
Mershad previously served as chairman, president and ceo of Elder-Beerman Stores Corp. from 1997 to 2001. Mershad has held other executive-level positions, including president of Proffitt’s Department Stores. He began his career with Federated Department Stores.
Separately, Goody’s revealed a partnership with Windsong Inc. to exclusively distribute Hawaiian Tropic Apparel-branded clothing, swimwear and accessories for men and women through its Goody’s stores. Under the terms, Windsong will design and manufacture the Hawaiian Tropic Collection, with its women’s division, New Frontier Holdings LLC, designing the Hawaiian Tropic women’s collection.
The new collection is expected to be in stores on March 1. Goody’s did not disclose the financial terms of the partnership.
