LONDON — One New Change, the City of London shopping mall, was hit by a smash-and-grab raid on Monday morning with thieves holding shop assistants at knife point.
Robbers entered the British jewelry store Fraser Hart, which is located on the ground floor, around 11:30 a.m. They stole several high-value items, kept shop assistants at bay with knives and managed to flee the crime scene on mopeds before police were alerted.
The value of the stolen goods has not been disclosed.
A spokesman for the City of London Police confirmed the incident: “Today City of London police were called to reports of a knifepoint robbery at a jewelry store at One New Change. Four suspects are believed to have been involved, with two high-powered mopeds. Several items of jewelry were taken. Nobody was injured.”
The police cordoned off the ground floor of the mall, which remained closed for several hours after the attack, with no access to pedestrians.
