ECONOMIST NAMES ZANNY MINTON BEDDOES: The Economist Group has tapped Zanny Minton Beddoes as editor in chief.
She takes the reins on Feb. 2.
She is the first female editor of the London-based publication and the 17th to hold the position.
She replaces John Micklethwait, who decamped for Bloomberg where he serves as editor in chief of the news division.
The new editor in chief most recently served as The Economist’s economics editor. She joined The Economist in 1994, after spending two years as an economist at the International Monetary Fund.
“The board has chosen Zanny as editor, someone who is a fine leader, with long experience on the paper,” said Rupert Pennant-Rea, chairman of The Economist Group, as well as a former editor of The Economist. “She will be a true advocate for The Economist and its values.”
