LONDON — The British luxury leather-goods and stationery label Smythson has called on two London artists to front its fall campaign — the illustrator, filmmaker and artist Quentin Jones and set and spatial designer Robert Storey.
The creatives appear in Smythson’s print campaign imagery, shot in London by Paul Wetherell, both wearing pieces from the label’s fall collection that chime with their lifestyles — Storey wears Smythson’s Burlington leather backpack, while Jones carries the Brook shoulder bag and its Continental travel purse. They also appear in films to be posted on Smythson’s Web site, about how London inspires their creative process.
In addition to the campaign, both Jones and Storey will be involved on creative projects for Smythson — Storey will work with the brand to design its stores’ Christmas windows, which he said would be based around the idea of a “Christmas wonderland,” with “kinetic elements.” Jones, meanwhile, has created a stop-motion animated film to mark Smythson’s holiday season, and will design a limited-edition Christmas card for the firm.

Jones, who has in the past designed illustrated products for Smythson, including leather handbags and notebooks, said that the appeal of the label for both her and Storey was that “Smythson has a quite fun approach — as well as being a typically British brand, I feel like there’s a quirkiness to the brand,” said Jones at a dinner to launch the campaign earlier this month. “I think for [Smythson] they liked that we can both work in a classic way, but also in a way that’s super colorful and fun.”
Jones and Storey are no strangers to fashion collaborations — Storey has created sets and spaces for designers such as Mary Katrantzou, Alexander Lewis and Nike, while Jones has worked with Louis Vuitton, Sephora and Kenzo to create illustrated fashion images and films.
