John Varvatos continued to nurture his love affair with music by tapping the Los Angeles-based rhythm and blues band, Vintage Trouble, to appear in his most recent advertising campaign.
In the past, Varvatos, who is known for his rock-‘n’-roll aesthetic, has used everyone from Kiss and Jimmy Page to Ringo Starr in his ads.
The campaign was conceived by Yard and photographed by Danny Clinch, the same pairing that Varvatos has used for 23 seasons.
In addition to print ads, the spring campaign features a short film of the group, created by Clinch, that uses a multiple camera approach to shoot the band wearing looks from the spring collection as they arrive for sound check and then perform their single, “Knock Me Out,” at the historic King’s Theater in Brooklyn, which opened in 1929 and recently underwent a major renovation.
“This is a band that gives 200 percent at every show and this shoot captures their incredible energy, talent and style. Ty wrote this killer song, ‘Knock Me Out,’ along with these amazing songwriters Omar Tavarez and Federico Vender for our campaign video, and it’s powerful, poignant, and destined to be a smash hit. Long Live Rock,” Varvatos said.

Clinch said the band members have “classic style but with a reckless, modern twist. Photographing them was a dream. I love when musicians are willing to participate and contribute something to the shoot. That collaboration takes everything to the next level.”
Vintage Trouble lead singer Ty Taylor, said: “I have always been a fan of the indisputable fire that rises when music and fashion collide in the purest and most primitive of ways. What I wear completely effects not only my motion, but also my emotion. From the moment we met John a few years back, we had a connection that reminded me of the way artists from different mediums melted into each other’s vibes during the beatnik period.”
The campaign launches Friday on Varvatos’ social platforms: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
