HISTORY BOY: The 140-year-old British shirtmaker Turnbull & Asser has named Roberto Menichetti creative director, overseeing bespoke shirting, tailoring, outerwear and accessories.
Menichetti, who during his long career has worked for brands including Burberry, Celine and Jil Sander, has also been charged with developing “new synergies and design initiatives” at the Jermyn Street brand and building its global presence.
Born in the U.S. and raised in Umbria, Italy, where his parents owned a clothing manufacturer, he began his fashion career in Paris at Claude Montana.

Menichetti later joined the Italian clothing manufacturer Gruppo Finanziario Tessile, GFT, which was then the leading company managing licenses for brands including Valentino and Giorgio Armani. In the 1990s, he joined Jil Sander, where he launched menswear, before moving to Burberry under then chief executive officer Rose Marie Bravo to introduce the British brand’s designer-driven label Prorsum.
He has also consulted for brands including Cerruti and Ballantyne.
In his new role, Menichetti will collaborate with the Turnbull & Asser artisans at the London and Gloucester, England, workshops, focusing on innovation in fabric development, sustainable practices and bespoke tailoring techniques, the company said.
Menichetti has been working with the house for several years, but his appointment was only formalized this week. Much of his latest collection is already on the Turnbull website, the company said.
He reports to James Fayed, Turnbull & Asser’s chairman, owner and head of Turnbull’s global directive team.
Fayed said Menichetti’s appointment “reflects our ambition to bring fresh energy to our wardrobe, while remaining true to the craftsmanship that has defined Turnbull & Asser for over a century. We are confident that Roberto’s international experience and proven creative leadership will ensure the continued success and growth of our house.”
Menichetti said Turnbull & Asser “represents more than a brand; it is a living expression of British style and elegance, carefully built over generations. To be entrusted with its creative future is both an honor and a responsibility. My vision is to uphold and protect this tradition while introducing quiet innovations that ensure its voice continues to resonate with discerning clients around the world.”
