Jonathan Zrihen, who has been the president and chief executive officer of the Americas region of Groupe Clarins, is now global chief operating officer of the Paris-based parent company. He also is joining the company’s board.
The chief operating officer position is new, and the duties involved were previously handled by Philip Shearer, global ceo of the 61-year-old French beauty company. Zrihen, 43, will shoulder those responsibilities and continue reporting to Shearer, as he has in the past as a regional president. He will also report to Olivier Courtin-Clarins, executive director of Groupe Clarins, and a board member. The chief operating officer post was created for Zrihen by Olivier Courtin-Clarins and his brother Christian Courtin-Clarins, president of the supervisory board, according to a spokeswoman.

Zrihen will continue in his New York-based Americas role until a successor is found, according to the company.
Zrihen has been a rising star since joining the company in 1993 as a marketing intern in the Paris office. After entering the international division, Zrihen was sent on assignment to Australia, where he became the national sales administrator in November 1994. He moved back to the Paris office in 1996 as international area director. He was named vice president of Asia-Pacific in 1999, where he created an Asian regional office. He became president of Clarins Canada in 2004 and moved into New York in July 2006 as president and ceo of Clarins Group USA. His responsibilities spread to all of North America in 2009. Then he took over the Americas in April 2013.
