The stock market was energized today as the energy sector was bolstered by higher crude oil prices, which spread to other sectors pushing the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.42 percent to close at 18,112.61 while the S&P 500 gained 0.51 percent to finish at 2,106.63. The WWD Global Stock Tracker posted a 0.12 percent increase to 116.72.
Investors looked for clues on economic conditions to determine how the quarter will play out on the earnings front. Bank of America senior management was bullish on the economy during its earnings call with Wall Street. And the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book economic report noted that “reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts indicate that the economy continued to expand across most regions from mid-February through the end of March.”
