LONDON — European stock markets made modest gains in midmorning trading on Monday, with the exception of the FTSE MIB in Milan, which was down 0.4 percent to 21,669.88.
The FTSE 100 in London jumped 0.7 percent to 6,159.62; followed by the CAC 40 in Paris, 0.6 percent to 4574.50, and the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.5 percent to 10,173.83.
The euro traded at $1.13 while the pound fetched $1.54 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.03 at 10:40 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the morning’s biggest risers including Jimmy Choo, 2.5 percent to 1.52 pounds; French Connection Group, 2.6 percent to 0.30 pounds, and Safilo Group, 1.3 percent to 11.08 euros.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Yoox Group, 1.1 percent to 27.65 euros; Moncler, 1.2 percent to 15.50 euros, and Hugo Boss, 0.3 percent to 101.60 euros.
