LONDON — European stock markets gained modest ground in morning trading on Monday, with the exception of the CAC 40 in Paris, which fell 0.1 percent to 4,844.05.
The FTSE MIB in Milan was up 0.7 percent to 18,724.62, the FTSE 100 in London advanced 0.4 percent to 7,271.05 and the DAX in Frankfurt gained 0.1 percent to 11,816.68.
The euro traded at $1.05, while the pound fetched $1.24 and the Danish krone equaled $0.14 at 10:00 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Adidas, 3.3 percent to 156.95 euros; Jimmy Choo, 2.4 percent to 1.59 pounds, and Gemfields, 1.6 percent to 0.44 pounds.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Associated British Foods, 1.3 percent to 25.78 pounds; Pandora, 1 percent to 828 kroner, and Asos.com, 0.7 percent to 52.92 pounds.
