PARIS — European stock markets were mostly lower mid-morning trading on Thursday, with some markets closed and others only trading for half the day ahead of the New Year holiday.
The FTSE 100 in London edged down 0.3 percent to 6,257.09, while France’s CAC 40 lost 0.4 percent to 4,658.50. Germany’s DAX and the FTSE MIB in Milan were both closed.
The euro traded at $1.09, while the pound fetched $1.48, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.00 at 11:15 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks posted a mixed performance in light trading.
Among the morning’s gainers were Asos, up 1.4 percent to 34.05 pounds, and French Connection Group, 3.5 percent to 0.37 pounds. Those who lost ground included Koovs, down 6.7 percent to 0.25 pounds, and Burberry Group, 1.2 percent to 11.96 pounds.
