LONDON – European stock markets made gains in mid-morning trading on Monday, with the CAC 40 in Paris leading the way.
The French market was up 0.8 percent to 4,864.69, followed by the FTSE MIB in Milan, 0.7 percent to 18,993.50, and the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.6 percent to 11,738.76. The FTSE 100 in London rose 0.1 percent to 7,264.51.
The euro traded at $1.06, while the pound fetched $1.25, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.00 at 12:20 p.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Aeffe, 6.8 percent to 1.31 euros; Mulberry Group, 2.2 percent to 11.11 pounds; Joules Group, 1.4 percent to 2.15 pounds; and LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, 187.90 euros.
Among the few stocks that lost substantial ground were SuperGroup, 1.3 percent to 14.91 pounds; MySale Group, 2.4 percent to 1.13 pounds; Italian Independent Group, 2.8 percent to 4.22 euros; and Debenhams, 1.9 percent to 0.54 pounds.
