LONDON – Europe’s markets were uneven in mid-morning trading on Tuesday, while retail and luxury stocks made gains.
The FTSE 100 in London climbed 0.4 percent to 7,200.98, followed by the FTSE MIB in Milan, 0.1 percent to 18,706.18. The CAC 40 in Paris was down 0.2 percent to 4,767.01, while the DAX in Frankfurt dipped 0.1 percent to 11,502.11.
The euro traded at $1.08, the pound at $1.25, the Swiss franc at $1.01 and the Danish krone at $0.14 at 9:50 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Moncler, 1.1 percent to 17.60 euros; Burberry Group, 1.2 percent to 16.36 pounds; Gemfields, 1.6 percent to 0.51 pounds, and Tod’s, 1.2 percent to 65.80 euros.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Metro, 3.1 percent to 29.73 euros; Jimmy Choo, 2.7 percent to 1.53 pounds, and Pandora, 4.5 percent to 841 Danish kroner. Earlier on Tuesday, the Danish jeweler said sales were up 21 percent, while net profits grew 66 percent in 2016.
