For this year’s Untitled Art Fair, Rado has tapped renowned industrial designer Tej Chauhan to reinterpret the legacy of its DiaStar Original watch. The reimagination of the watch is a special edition version by Rado, in collaboration with Chauhan.
When the original timepiece first launched in 1962, it blended futurism with Rado’s precision — Chauhan builds on these codes to continue the icon’s heritage.
Merging creativity and innovation — and as the Master of Materials — Rado’s collaboration with more than 30 artists and designers pushes the boundaries of watchmaking. Bold design aesthetics merge pioneering materials, visually distinct designs and resilient watches, hence its core value of Rado being “Design You Can Feel.”
Chauhan, an award-winning British industrial designer, is best known for his “Emotive Industrial Design,” the shape, color and materials of objects evoking a sense of joy. This approach to design combines both his visual language and optimized functionality.
“This approach that defines the work we do in our practice is specifically designed to engage people and to invite interaction,” said Chauhan. The partnership with Rado reflects a shared vision of creating objects that resonate emotionally while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of design and technology.
The watch taps into Chauhan’s philosophy with its polished yellow gold-colored PVD-coated Ceramos™ bezel, matte black concave dial with silver or blue minute track and gray pillow-shaped rubber strap. The day-date display showcases Chauhan’s own font in a vivid palette through each day of the week in a different color — showcasing how he feels every day of the week.
With its Rado R764 caliber, 80-hour power reserve and antimagnetic Nivachron™ hairspring, the DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan watch combines the Master of Materials’ pioneering craftsmanship with the Father of Emotive Industrial Design’s bold vision.
While Rado has received numerous awards for its innovative designs, the brand looks beyond the scope of the watchmaking field to draw inspiration, such as architecture, graphic design and fashion. Guided by the philosophy that “if we can imagine it, we can make it. And if we can make it, we will,” Rado continues to shape the future of watchmaking.
“Design is a central pillar of Rado’s identity since decades — valued not only for its aesthetic power but also for its ability to create emotional connections and resonate deeply with individuals. True to our pioneering spirit, we continue to push boundaries and look for inspiration in different fields, collaborating with visionary artists and designers to create timepieces that are both iconic and emotionally engaging. Untitled Art Fair Miami and Rado share a spirit of innovation and a deep passion for design — united by a common purpose: to connect with people on an emotional level and to touch their hearts,” said Adrian Bosshard, chief executive officer of Rado.
The DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan watch is on display at Untitled Art, Miami Beach, until Dec. 7 and available for purchase at Rado.com.
