Rado’s global reputation as the “Master of Materials” has been solidified through the creation of luxurious yet durable timepieces during the 1980s — with that legacy continuing to the present day. When the Swiss-made brand launched its Anatom watch in 1983, the futuristic style was a captivating timepiece that showcased how the brand was putting innovation at the forefront. Now, 40 years later, the Swiss brand is paying homage to the watch by reintroducing the line and has created 40 Anatom Limited Edition timepieces.
The original Anatom futuristic sapphire-crystal glass was a rectangular, almost square watch. Continuing to evolve the timepiece, Rado focused on creating a timepiece that was both harmonious and “anatomical” in design to push the boundaries of watchmaking. The rounded sapphire glass created new flowing forms within the bracelet and case attachment silhouette that molded itself to the wrist without a frame, for optimal wearer comfort. The design was so iconic that Andy Warhol was commissioned to make one of his last works ever to celebrate Rado’s Anatom’s launch in New York.
Rado’s ingenuity when creating the Anatom sparked further originality with the creation of later models such as the rectangular “Manhattan” model in the 1960s. The “Manhattan” timepiece was one of the first and most talked about square watches, with Rado’s patented sealing system.
Iterations of the Anatom line in the late 1990s saw Rado introduce a popular automatic model that remained a permanent fixture with the brand’s product line for 30 years. At the time, Rado said this iteration model was strengthened by design elements “provided by the refined decoration in gold and other precious metals.”
Combining resistant durability with fresh designs, Rado created the DiaStar Anatom in 1996. The company noted that “when Rado launched the DiaStar ‘Anatom’, the company was yet again opening up revolutionary new frontiers.” However, the name “Anatom” stood out on its own with its legacy and the company returned to the singular word.
Now a decade later, the 2023 Anatom features a high-tech ceramic case, edge-to-edge crystal and a variety of dials to create an exceptional timepiece for watch collectors.
With the arrival of the 2023 High-Tech Ceramic version watch, Rado pays homage to the groundbreaking timepiece while looking to the future.
The 2023 Anatom features a lacquered polished satin background with three different color gradient hues: blue to black, green to black and cognac to black. With a Rado caliber R766, 72-hour power reserve and antimagnetic Nivachron™ hairspring, the timepiece continues its legacy of putting comfort and timeless aesthetics at the forefront.
With just 40 watches made, the limited-edition anniversary edition of the Anatom is black-lacquered polished and features 11 baguette diamonds on the dial and silver-colored Rado and the “Jubilé” logo on the face. The timepiece is individually numbered with the inscription “Since 1983, limited edition, N° XX / 40” and comes with its own Anatom 40th Anniversary watch box and certificate.
