The WNBA has continued to see momentum for women in sports this year like never before — and it’s just getting started. The Golden State Valkyries, who are entering the WNBA as the 13th team franchise for the sport, have unveiled their jersey for its first season in 2025.
The jerseys feature the team’s global logo with the outer shape forming a “V” for Valkyries — Norse mythological women warriors with expansive wings. The “V” also showcases the Valkyries in flight. Inside the “V” is the Bay Bridge, paying homage to the team’s identity and its connection to the Bay Area. The exterior of the bridge also forms a sword to symbolize courage, power and authority.

In place of the bridge’s suspension cables is a reimagination of the mythological figure’s wings. The five triangles on each side from the bridge cables for the wings represent the five-versus-five players facing off on the court and the 13 lines inside the logo represent the team being the 13th team of the WNBA.
Part of the WNBA uniform will see the Valkyries wear two distinct versions of the team jersey: the Nike Heroine edition with a white-based uniform and the Nike Explorer edition with a black-based uniform.
“The Valkyries’ inaugural uniforms are a visual interpretation of who Valkyries are: fierce, bold and strong,” said Kimberly Veale, senior vice president of marketing and communications of the Valkyries. “When our athletes and fans alike put on a Valkyries uniform during our inaugural season, they will embody that ethos. These uniforms represent another major milestone for the franchise as we prepare to welcome WNBA basketball to the Bay Area in 2025.”
The Valkyries said that the uniform is also a representation of the team’s presence across the two major locations for the team in the Bay Area: San Francisco’s Chase Center, where the team will play home games, and Oakland, where the team’s practice facilities and offices are located.
Founding partners of the Valkyries, JPMorgan Chase and Kaiser Permanente, are also featured on the uniform.
“We’re proud that Kaiser Permanente’s logo will be featured on the Valkyries home and road uniform,” said Carrie Owen-Plietz, president of Kaiser Permanente NorCal. “As part of our commitment to increase access, equity and overall community well-being, a portion of the Valkyries’ jersey sales will benefit the community.”
Ahead of the inaugural season, JPMorgan Chase is offering fans an exclusive Valkyries varsity jacket to those who purchase a 2025 season ticket with their Chase debit or credit card.
“The shield goes beyond the jersey, it symbolizes our commitment to supporting the Valkyries and our dedication to lifting women’s voices and profiles in sports,” Kate Schoff, managing director of sports and entertainment marketing at JPMorgan Chase, told WWD. “At JPMorganChase, we are on a mission to create moments and opportunities to inspire change. We want every young girl to grow up knowing that she has possibilities in the world of sports. Whether she decides to work or play, she can live out her dreams on a team like the Valkyries.”
As part of the uniform celebrations, a series of activations are being held throughout the day including JPMorgan Chase and Kaiser Permanente hosting a scavenger hunt for fans to find hidden jerseys at local Bay Area businesses and the Salesforce Tower and Chase Center lit up in Valkyries signature violet hue.
While the team currently has no signed players, the Valkyries will fill up its roster on Friday at the WNBA expansion draft — with the team eligible to participate in its first WNBA players draft in April. The Valkyries can also sign unrestricted free-agent players when the free-agency period opens up in February. The Valkyries recently chose former WNBA player Natalie Nakase to be its head coach.
More than 20,000 season Valkyries ticket deposits were made in November of this year, beating its initial record of the most deposits for a women’s sports team in the U.S. before its first season and the team has landed another founding partner, CarMax (who also is a sponsor of the Golden State Warriors), in a new five-year sponsorship deal.
The Valkyries will face off against the Los Angeles Sparks for its inaugural game and as a home opener on May 16 at the Chase Center; they will also compete during the 2025 season for the Commissioners Cup.
The Valkyrie’s new 2025 inaugural season jerseys are slated to be available for purchase by the beginning of February 2025.
