Estée Lauder Makes Promotions at Jo Malone and Origins

Jean-Guillaume Trottier will take over as global brand president of Jo Malone London, while Julie Van Ongevalle has been promoted to senior vice president and global general manager of Origins.

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. has announced two promotions — one at Jo Malone London and another at Origins.

Jean-Guillaume Trottier has been promoted to global brand president of Jo Malone London, and Julie Van Ongevalle has been tapped as senior vice president and global general manager of Origins.

Trottier has been the global general manager for Jo Malone since 2012. He has significantly expanded the brand’s global footprint, launching the line in key markets in Brazil, Korea, China, Israel and the Philippines and doubling brand sales globally in the past three years, according to the company. In the new role, which is effective July 1, Trottier will continue to report to John Demsey, executive group president.

“Jean-Guillaume is a highly talented and creative leader who has effectively articulated Jo Malone London’s special equity as a British luxury brand for a global stage,” Demsey said. “From the successful growth of the freestanding store business, to cultivating the brand’s distinctly ‘giftable’ appeal, Jean-Guillaume’s unwavering vision continues to make the brand a must-have for prestige consumers around the world.”

Trottier first joined Lauder in 2004 as brand manager for MAC France. He was promoted in 2007 to vice president and general manager for MAC Europe, the Middle East and Africa and the U.K. In that role, he grew MAC’s presence in the regions, both increasing retail sales and elevating the brand’s profile and positioning in both emerging and mature markets.

Van Ongevalle, who also joined Lauder in 2004, has been tapped from MAC, where she is currently senior vice president and general manager for North America. She started at Lauder as marketing director for Clinique, Benelux. Since then, she’s held roles of increasing responsibility and counts launching Origins in the Netherlands among her accomplishments. Her new role is effective Oct. 1. She will report to Jane Hertzmark Hudis, group president.

At MAC North America, her focus has been on strengthening retailer relationships. She created a long-term vision to expand and reinforce distribution, plus structure to provide more support to the business, according to the company. She has also established a strong regional team and strategies for consumer engagement and accelerated distribution in new and existing markets.

“Julie is a superb brand-builder possessing a keen understanding of the highly influential Millennial consumer, as well as valuable global expertise in digital and social media and retail dynamics,” Hudis said. “I am confident she will lead this extraordinary brand to its next phase of growth around the world.”
