Keeping with tradition, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores tapped a national magazine to seek out some of the latest and greatest trends on the Marketplace show floor. This year, In Style magazine lent its expertise to the hunt. Six style scouts, between the ages of 19 and 22 years old, spent two days going from booth to booth seeking out cosmetics, hair and skin care standouts. Winning the grand prize in skin care were two companies, Nature’s Gate for its Rainwater Organics lotion and Lumiport for DermaStyle, an anti-acne device. Juice Organics’ Lip Amplifier won for Most Wanted Cosmetic Product, while Physicians Formula was runner-up for its Shimmer Strips multi-colored shimmering bronzer. In hair care, professional brand Alagio took home first place for its Crazy Curl and Silk Obsession ranges. Jean Louis David’s new brush line placed second in hair. Hollywood Lips, which makes lip balms and glosses, was named Most Buzz-Worthy Product. Fresh Mineral, which makes mineral makeup, won for Hottest Packaging, while Conair’s Infiniti Hair Designer hair dryer won for Best Product Innovation. To help determine this year’s winners, the “scouts” reviewed the products and were educated by vendors of the nominated products.
