NEW YORK — In May, Origins will serve up a new version of its popular Ginger product line with the Ginger With a Twist collection.

Ginger With a Twist was created as a lighter, more summery alternative to the rich, warm scent of the original Ginger collection, said Joellen Bradford, vice president of global marketing for Origins. “Our Ginger franchise is our biggest bath and body collection — it’s been around eight years and it has established a classic, loyal following,” she said. “But people find it to be more of a wintery, warm fragrance, which is maybe not as appropriate for summer months. We saw a great opportunity to do something fresher, something different for summertime.”

The Ginger collection is the company’s “biggest bath and body franchise,” according to Bradford, making up about 35 percent of sales in that category and is the number-two overall franchise for the brand after A Perfect World. Industry sources expect the Ginger With a Twist collection to do up to $5 million in first-year retail sales.

The collection includes Sublime Body Wash, $18.50, a cleanser featuring aloe vera, crème de coconut and ginger-citrus; Moisturizing Body Cooler, $26, a soothing cream featuring glycerine and aloe, and Sparkling Body Cocktail spray, which will retail for $37.50. The Sparkling Body Cocktail spray is an all-natural essential oil blend that is long lasting to boot, according to Lynn Mazzella, vice president of global product development. “A lot of essential oils are very fleeting — citrus and lime are probably some of the most fleeting essential oils,” said Mazzella, referring to some of the essential oils used in the new “twist” aroma. “But the beauty in this blend is that ginger, clove and cinnamon have been blended together to give it power and hold.”

Interestingly enough, Ginger With a Twist was inspired by trends in the beverage industry, such as fruit-infused liquors and soft drinks like Diet Coke with Lime, said Bradford. “We were inspired by all of the different infusions in beverage business,” said Bradford. “Just watching the trend of seeing little twists that add freshness to things — people really like these products.”
