NEW YORK — Actress and model Iman has signed a deal with QVC Inc. to sell a signature line of makeup and skin care on television.

Her first TV appearances will coincide with the launch of her products in 200 doors of J.C. Penney do. early next month.

“We wanted to reach more of the people we are targeting,” said Iman, noting that her line, which is aimed at ethnic women, will also be available through a toll-free number.

“We’ll be in the Penney’s stores, but there will still be a lot of cities where they won’t be available.”

Iman will appear in four 20-minute segments on QVC on July 8, 9 and 10. As yet unnamed hosts, provided by QVC, will shepherd the proceedings.

A specially priced product kit will be sold exclusively via home shopping. It will include Second to None Cream to Powder foundations in three shades, one unit of Luxury Pressed Powder, Under Cover Agent Oil Control Lotion, Liquid Assets Gentle Cleansing Lotion, a bottle of Oil Free Advanced Moisture Complex and a Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick.

The set has an approximate retail value of $120 and will be sold for around $60 on QVC. Viewers will be advised to go to Penney’s if they wish to find the remainder of Iman’s 132-stockkeeping-unit line.

“This will be just an introduction,” said Iman. “Skin care will be the emphasis, because that is the area I think women should concentrate on first,” she added.

Following the weekend of selling on QVC, Iman will make appearances at Penney’s in 30 cities, including New York, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Miami and Atlanta.

The Iman product line was developed by the Cosmetic Marketing Group.

Members of the group include Marvin Traub and Lester Gribetz, formerly of Bloomingdale’s; Ken Lazar and Susan Rafaj, both industry consultants, and Byron Donics and Peter Zegras of Khepra Beauty Group.
