Polynesian Beauties at Diane von Furstenberg

Flowers, hats and headbands may have been the rule at Diane von Furstenberg, but underneath the head coverings were pretty ponytails created by Frédéric Fekkai.

Flowers, hats and headbands may have been the rule at Diane von Furstenberg, but underneath the head coverings were pretty ponytails created by Frédéric Fekkai.

“The mood is Polynesia,” said the hairstylist, who added that the look was “silky — she looks like she is coming out of the pool to have a drink. This is an early-Eighties Diane von Furstenberg woman. She’s sophisticated and chic. It’s an easy look to adapt.”

Fekkai used two of his namesake products to achieve the sometimes sleek, sometimes textured ponytails: Magnifique styling cream from his Coiff line and a new version of Shape & Set Mist, which he was testing backstage. “It gives memory to the hair without looking stiff or greasy,” Fekkai said of the new setting mist.

Sticking with von Furstenberg’s theme of “Under the Volcano,” Nars makeup artist Ayako created a look reminiscent of a girl who is “on vacation in Tahiti, Bora Bora or Hawaii.

“She’s just left the water and she has dewy, sun-kissed skin,” said Ayako, who outlined eyes with a dark blue Nars pencil and gave the eyes, cheeks and lips a touch of peachy orange makeup stick — called Volcano — from von Furstenberg’s own cosmetics collection.
