WATCH THIS SPACE: Francesca Amfitheatrof is back and ready to make a splash.
The designer is launching Amfitheatrof Studio, a creative studio that will work across a wide spectrum, ranging from fine and high jewelry to furniture and technology — with a high-end Huawei smartwatch as her first design.
With a physical studio in New York City, its approach is “rooted in blue-sky thinking, moving beyond expected forms and categories to create jewelry and objects that introduce a new level of desirability, exclusivity, and meaning,” the company said in a statement.

Amfitheatrof was most recently artistic director of watches and jewelry at Louis Vuitton, a position she held for seven years before exiting in March 2025.
Prior to that, the Tokyo-born, Central Saint Martins-trained designer was design director for watches and jewelry at Tiffany & Co. and also through her career, imagined tabletop and lifestyle objects for brands including Wedgwood, Alessi and Garrard. She also designed furniture for French-Vietnamese interior designer Muriel Brandolini.
First out of the gate for Amfitheatrof Studio is the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design Spring Edition, a high-end smartwatch unveiled at the Chinese tech company’s annual keynote event on Monday and part of its ultra-premium wearables offering.
“The world’s first wristwatches were made for women as objects of beauty, just like jewels,” said the designer. It’s design is inspired by “the vitality of spring” and nature’s exuberant blooming — and the mathematical Fibonacci sequence that governs leaf and branch arrangements, seed placements and even the structure of beehives.
The watch’s features therefore include elements nodding to the golden ratio, on the physical watch and its digital watch faces. Set with 99 natural diamonds on its integrated bracelet and on the face — at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock — the device has a sapphire face with a faceted bezel edge, a case made of titanium alloy and a ceramic back.
Priced at 29,999 renminbi, or $4,400 at current exchange, the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design Spring Edition will be released on May 15.
