Having helped launch products for such sundry entities as Chrysler, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and Britney Spears, marketing and licensing exec Robert Hollander is striking out on his own with the launch of Carbon 14, an outdoor-inspired brand. The inaugural collection of watches hit jewelry stores this month.
Named for the isotope that is used in carbon dating — think of it as nature’s watch — the new line is Hollander’s response to what he saw as a dearth of sporty, moderately priced timepieces. “I didn’t plan to launch in the depth of a recession, but it’s turned out to be fortuitous,” says Hollander of the watches, which retail between $250 and $450.
