PARIS – The hip northern Marais design district here has sprouted a new hot spot for decorative arts: Galerie BSL, at 23 Rue Charlot. The store proposes unique and limited edition vintage and contemporary objects from the design, jewelry and fashion arenas, from names including Ron Arad, Pol Bury, Taher Chemirik, Nacho Carbonell, Line Vautrin and Djim Berger.
Founder Béatrice Saint-Laurent described the space — which was designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance and features a sculptural raised white display platform in its belly — as a blank page for creating a dialogue between rare objects, the majority of which are commissioned by the store.
Products on offer include taxidermy scarab beetle necklaces and enameled resin jewelry as vivid as stained glass windows by Greek designer Lito Karakostanoglou; porous porcelain seats by Djim Berger and handbags in rare skins, such as vintage Nile perch, by Benoit Duvignacq.
