The adage that creativity springs from difficult times may well apply to three new accessories designers, each of whom opted to launch original creations in the U.S. in the last year.
“I’ve always been interested in contrasts of texture and tonality,” says Reece Hudson, a recent Parsons The New School for Design graduate whose namesake line of bags—tightly edited at just five pieces — mixes black and chocolate lambskins in vintage-inspired shapes (a satchel, a tote, a clutch). Retailing from $840 to $1,240, the collection is luxe yet efficient: Each piece, says Hudson, is “designed with the idea of a day-to-night bag.”

A different sort of efficiency — affordability — prompted Camilla Gallacher to create her Millie & Me jewelry collection, notable for its statement necklaces. “My aesthetic is English eccentric mixed with a vintage twist,” the London-based Gallacher says. The necklaces range from $150 to $450.
And how’s this for a meeting of minds: Arnaud Tougeron hatched his line of whimsical jewelry, AF148-AF147, while on a transatlantic flight after chatting with several other designers (the line’s logo is a propeller). Selling for around $250, the necklaces of painted flowers have a worn-in vibe, while ones featuring gold and turquoise fish evoke what Tougeron calls “geometric moves.”
