Designer C.T. Liu, much like most of the world, felt a feeling of uncertainty last season due to the pandemic, which was reflected in the collection. But for spring 2022, he wanted to give a feeling of hope to counter any feelings of disappointment and frustration.
Taiwan-born Liu drew inspiration from the poem “Presentiment” by Rainer Maria Riike for this season, but particularly the line, “I feel the coming wind, and am disturbed as the sea,” which he interpreted as mankind’s ability to feel coming change and find a way to live in harmony with it. Liu explored fashion’s presentiment through new takes on sportswear and eveningwear in palettes inspired by the moon in shades of gray and black, as well as purple and yellow.
The look: A new take on eveningwear to transition from day to night, for casual and special events.

Quote of note: “Under these circumstances, we need to be cautious but remain optimistic,” Liu said about the present climate. “I will enjoy whatever I do in my career and hope everyone will do the same. Instead of worry, create.”
Key pieces: One ensemble included laser-cut lace ties on a leather skirt that Liu explained represents the many twists in our lives; day to night looks in a voluminous dress with a black-and-white gradient digital print paired with a white blazer, and yellow and pink options paired with denim styles, Liu’s specialty.
The takeaway: Liu commented that his previous collection had a “party vibe” and this season continues the party well into the night.
