Sustainable, High-Performance Fibers Redefine Spring/Summer 2027 Denim Trends

As the fashion industry accelerates toward a more responsible future, denim is stepping confidently into Spring/Summer 2027 with a renewed focus on performance and sustainability. This season, mills aim to prove that high performance and low impact can coexist in denim textiles.

Orta’s collection features responsible fibers such as organic cotton, recycled cotton linen, cottonized hemp, Tencel and EcoVero viscose.

The mill also has a new collaboration with Lenzing for the fiber producer’s latest innovation, Tencel HV100. “This fiber mimics the natural irregularities of cotton but gives the benefits of Tencel lyocell in terms of performance and sustainability story,” said Sebla Onder, Orta’s marketing and sustainability manager. “Our product development team worked closely with Tencel team to develop beautiful authentic look fabrics with this technology in which you will see no difference from a cotton rich fabric but feel the softness and luxury of Tencel lyocell.”

Calik Denim, DNM Denim, US Denim Mills, Soorty, Naveena Denim Limited, Advance Denim and Naveena Denim Mills are also introducing fabrics with Tencel HV100.

Berke Aydemir, Naveena Denim Mills’ senior GM R&D and technical sales, noted how the fiber’s closed-loop system uses 50 percent less carbon emissions and water, while supporting moisture control and maintaining a natural texture.

Naveena Denim Mills is also adding untraditional options like pineapple-based denim and recycled linen blends to its range. The emerging fibers are part of the Pakistani mill’s GentleCulture concept. Aydemir said each fabric is “crafted to echo nature’s elegance while minimizing environmental impact.”

Along with Tencel HV100 fabrics, US Denim Mills is using a “refined mix of sustainable and performance-driven fiber blends” such as Tencel, linen and Circulose for S/S ’27. On the performance side, the Lahore-based mill is spotlighting Natural Performance, a 100 percent cotton fabric engineered to deliver moisture-wicking and thermal regulation properties without synthetic blends. The mill’s goal is to show a future where performance can be achieved naturally.

Calik Denim remains focused on biodegradable solutions. This season, the Turkish mill applies B210 technology—a tech developed to achieve biodegradability for synthetic fibers—to its new Re/Essence concept. Re/Essence offers both rigid and comfort stretch ecru and PFD fabrics.

With this collection, Ibrahim Ethem Buyukpepe, Calik’s acting general manager, said the mill is “redefining what performance denim can mean—combining durability and functionality with a fully circular and sustainable approach” and described the innovation as a “benchmark for the future of responsible denim production.”

Performance is top of mind for Vicunha. “We’re introducing advanced fiber blends that elevate both comfort and performance,” said Kürşad Çakılcıoğlu, product development and sales manager for Vicunha in Europe. The mill’s Flexy Form concept showcases high-stretch denim with soft-touch yarns, excellent recovery, and body-shaping flexibility—designed to adapt to all body types and lifestyles. With Airsoft, the Brazilian mill adds breathable blends like lyocell and linen, ideal for warm climates and relaxed silhouettes.

“Performance is a huge focus, engineered to deliver real-world benefits,” said Baber Sultan, Artistic Milliners director of PD/R&D. The Pakistani mill’s Pipe Dream capsule is an example of this, using advanced tri-core yarns to provide unmatched recovery and a consistently perfect fit that resists sagging and stretching, he said.

On the comfort front, Artistic Milliners’ Lounge Edit utilizes new fibers and weaving techniques to create fabrics that are soft and drape beautifully. Similarly, the premium Dolce Vita capsule is crafted with ultra-soft, breathable fabrics that offer a feather-light hand feel.

“This focus on performance is now backed by a global R&D and manufacturing footprint,” he said, referring to Artistic Milliners’ growing footprint in Mexico. “The synergy between our teams allows us to scale these innovations—from the high-stretch (up to 35 percent) in our 90210 collection to new stretch versions of our authentic Forged fabrics—across a wider and more versatile product range than ever before.”

Tencel and cotton blends are central to Cone Denim’s S/S ’27 collection. Whether it is an overtly soft and drapey fabric or a denim that strikes a balance between authenticity and comfort, Pierette Scavuzzo, Cone Denim design director, said the blends provide versatility that resonates with brands and consumers who expect everyday denim to feel extremely comfortable and soft without losing its core identity.

Cone is also introducing a new generation of performance stretch denim built on an innovative, proprietary combination of Lycra Adaptiv, Coolmax EcoMade and Tencel. “This combination was engineered with a unisex approach in mind and brings together adaptive stretch for flexible fit, moisture management for temperature regulation, and natural softness for all-day comfort. The result is a denim that is functional and versatile as it remains authentic in character, answering the growing demand for fabrics that support lifestyle, comfort, and a seasonless garment with everyday shape retention,” Scavuzzo said.

Tencel is used in 20 percent of Maritaş’ S/S ’27 collection. The fiber’s softness, breathability and moisture management (and eco-friendly production process) supports the collection’s theme: fresh and breezy fabrics that evoke feelings of optimism and lightness. Additionally, Fatih Kesim, Maritaş general manager, said the mill’s MBS Technology “pushes the limits of high elasticity in denim with advanced performance and durability, aligning innovation with responsibility.” MBS provides 360-degree flexibility, a soft hand feel and long-lasting shape retention.

This season, DNM Denim aims to deliver natural comfort that translates to the office and the outdoors. “We focused on combining premium natural fibers with next-generation performance qualities,” said Sedat Sualp, DNM deputy general manager. “Blends of Tencel and linen bring softness, breathability, and a quiet luxury feel to timeless silhouettes, while advanced lightweight constructions ensure comfort and versatility for active lifestyles.”

This season Siddiqsons emphasizes responsible fiber blends, particularly Smart Linen, recycled cotton, EcoVero, Tencel and Marmara Hemp combinations that deliver comfortable softness, moisture management, fluid drape, enhanced strength, and durability.

Abbas Jan, director of sales and marketing at Siddiqsons Limited, said high-performance stretch stories also remain central, with Lycra Dual Comfort and stretch canvas providing flexibility without compromising authentic rigid looks. “These innovations offer fabrics that balance comfort, structure, and elasticity,” Jan said.

Global Denim has been bitten by the hemp bug as well. “Apart from our conventional fibers we are introducing a new line of hemp products and continue to work with Tencel for added softness and sustainability and the usage of recycled pre-consumer cotton. At the same time, we are experimenting with new fabrics that incorporate performance qualities derived from Lycra specialty fibers,” said Anatt Finkler, Global Denim’s creative director.

Linen, hemp, Tencel, recycled cotton and Merino wool are part of Pioneer Denim’s collection. The latter is featured in a new concept called Color Play, which combines a wool weft with a warp dyed in natural indigo.

Pineapple fiber derived from pineapple leaf waste is part of Soorty’s collection, adding natural durability to denim. The S/S ’27 collection also features Umorfil Bionic Fiber, Coolmax, EcoVero, Tencel Matte and the mill’s own line of recycled cotton called Secondlife.

Soorty is introducing a new article featuring The Lycra Company’s VintageFX technology, which offers a balance between modern comfort and a vintage aesthetic. “It allows to create denim garments with low stretch levels, excellent shape retention and recovery, in a vintage-inspired, authentic look,” said Eda Dikmen, Soorty’s senior marketing and communications manager.

Advance Denim continues to focus on VintageFX technology, which it helped Lycra develop at its Chinese mill. Advance previewed first-generation styles made with VintageFX last season but now has a full range of fabrics. “[We’re] excited to have the solution for performance recovery in a comfort stretch,” said Mark Ix, Advance Denim’s director of North American marketing.

Mills are showing love to linen. Candiani debuts a new lightweight denim collection features linen-cotton blended wefts. The Italian mill’s linen denim fabrics are 100 percent European, made from a blend of French linen fibers and Greek regenerative cotton, certified by Regenagri.

“Linen offers a naturally bright appearance and a soft touch, providing comfort and breathability against the skin, said Alberto Candiani, Candiani Denim president. “Additionally, linen fibers require minimal irrigation and are produced through a zero-waste process.”

Other fiber innovations from Candiani include Soft Core, a signature line of comfort-stretch fabrics made from Blue Seed cotton—the mill’s proprietary, traceable non-GMO variety—and custom-made Lycra EcoMade.

Blue Seed cotton is also certified by Regenagri for its sustainable practices. “This cotton combines extra-long staple and Upland varieties, resulting in durability and comfort. It thrives in arid conditions, requires fewer resources, and serves as an excellent rotational crop that enhances soil health, promoting regenerative agriculture,” Candiani said.

This season, Sapphire Finishing Mills focused on fabrics that “feel alive rather than over-engineered,” said Jaffar Ali, Sapphire Finishing Mills digital marketing and communications manager. Linen-cotton blends with easy, breathable washes are ideal for relaxed shirting. Tencel adds fluidity and a soft drape to twills, and for bottoms, Sapphire built cotton-rich twills and selvedge-inspired constructions. The mill’s Active Stretch collection utilizes nylon and recycled fibers to provide recovery and durability,

“Sustainability here isn’t just a claim, the fabrics are designed to move, breathe, and even age well over time,” said Aleem Ahmad, US Denim Mills deputy general manager of business development.
