Pitti Uomo Street Style: Kerchiefs, Madras and Boho

The 108th edition of Pitti Uomo in Florence came to a close last week, and the street style outside the venue was every bit as inspired as the collections showcased within.

Bandanas and kerchiefs worn tightly around the neck emerged as the must-have item. A long-time favored accessory among denim fans, the scarves add a lightweight flourish to a variety of looks from indigo workwear to soft tailoring under the intense Italian sun. Others wore the scarves loosely, using a clip to fasten the tails.

Various versions of exaggerated newsboy caps—often in denim—were also seen.

Camouflage made an appearance on tech pants and button-down shirts. The print was styled with everything from Carhartt overalls to tasseled loafers, proving its chameleon-like appeal.

Denim was notable dark for summer, as consumers continue to lean into selvedge and raw fabrics.

Elements of ’70s bohemian fashion—a theme that has permeated women’s wear this summer—trickled into men’s wear.  Printed silk shirts, wide lapels, embroidery, sharply tailored jeans and patchwork denim captured the mood.

While preppy fashion is a Pitti Uomo mainstay, choices like a shirt-less sweater vest and mixed prints added a youthfulness to outfits. New York Yankee baseball caps maintained their status as a symbol of cool. Madras was woven into the look, via blazers, trousers and tote bags.
