Loose Fits and Cinched Waists—The Latest Drops from Women’s Denim Brands

Women’s denim brands are offering a wide variety fits and fit solutions this fall.

Levi’s is addressing women’s fit challenges this fall with two new styles. The new 501 Curve is the first jean to combine the 501’s signature high rise, button fly and straight leg with a more contoured hip-to-waist ratio to eliminate back gapping. Extra room in the seat and thigh deliver a sculpted fit.

Jill Guenza, VP of women’s apparel design at Levi’s, said the brand went through many variations and wear-tests to land on the final product. “We feel that it’s a truly authentic 501 jean imbued with Levi’s DNA, but for a curvy body that might not have been able to find the right fit with our other 501 fits.”

Levi’s is also betting on the Cinch Baggy, offering it in six washes this fall. Though launched in the spring, the straight-leg baggy jean with adjusters on the back for a more tailored fit, continues to gain traction on social media. “It was pretty incredible to see the organic pickup and viral response to the product,” said Kellie Hansen, Levi’s director of global social media.

The 100 percent cotton jean is Levi’s solution for curvier consumers who couldn’t find baggy jeans that fit properly around the waist. The Cinch Baggy draws inspiration from the original Levi’s 501 jean, Lady Levi’s jeans and the brand’s Trucker jackets, which features adjusters on its hem.

Good American launched Soft-Tech, a line of jeans the Los Angeles -based brand describes as “the world’s soften denim.” Made with a cotton and Lycra T-400 blend, the Soft-Tech offers consumers a light, stretch and soft feeling.

The fabric is available in Good American’s best-selling washes and the brand new Good True Straight Jean, a fit with a slightly higher rise, wider straight leg and longer inseam. The collection also offers a skinny, kick flare, palazzo and bootcut fits.

Dramatic silhouettes are part of Citizens of Humanity’s fall collection for women. The brand offers the Lyra Wide Leg Crop and Ayla Baggy as well as a midi A-line skirt and mini skirt—both with a button-front design and pocket details. The brand applies horsebit hardware to the Kimberly Flare, elevating the ’70s silhouette.

Voluminous fits continue to drive the women’s category. Madewell recently launched the Balloon Jean, a 100 percent cotton jean designed with a high rise and exaggerated barrel-leg shape. The jean, which fits easy through the hip and thigh with a full-length inseam and crisp creases at the front and back, has a broken-in feel.

Madewell balances the roomy fit with The Cleo Straight, a jean with a relaxed straight leg and patch pockets.

AG’s art studio-inspired fall line-up spans relaxed fit boyfriend, mid-rise slim straight and the Saige, a wide-leg available in full-length and cropped versions. Other wide-leg option is the Adria, a low-rise jean made with comfort stretch denim from Kaihara in Japan, and the Hattie Crop, a barrel fit made with denim from Candiani in Italy.
