Ksubi returned to its roots Down Under for its latest collaboration.
The streetwear-slash-denim label teamed with Australian influencer and entrepreneur Elle Ferguson for “Ksubi by Elle.” The four-piece capsule fuses Ferguson’s Bondi-based cool-girl style with the brand’s expertise in denim.
Ferguson grew up with the brand. “Denim runs in my DNA,” she said. “Ksubi, to me, is the pinnacle of denim and working with the team has been a dream ever since my mum [sic] and I cut up my first pair of Ksubi jeans, turning them into shorts over 10 years ago.”
The former reality TV show contestant said her love affair with Ksubi goes back to the early aughts when she worked on the same block as Ksubi’s Bondi Beach boutique. Not only would she shop at the store, but Ferguson said she drew inspiration from its “punk aesthetic and bold mentality.”
Each piece in the collection pays tribute to Ferguson’s longstanding history with the brand as well as Ksubi pieces she’s kept throughout the years. “I’ve been chopping, stitching and customizing my denim pieces for years,” Ferguson said. “And now, I’ve created my dream denim pieces in the perfect blue wash for everyone to wear.”
Designed as wardrobe staples, the capsule comprises a jacket and three bottoms in classic mid-blue denim (named Babes Blue) featuring tobacco stitching and some subtle, signature distressing for a lived-in look and feel.
The KSuper, an exaggerated and oversized Trucker-style jacket, is inspired by a “borrowed from the boys” aesthetic. The Icon Jean reflects what the content creator deems quintessential: slim-straight and mid-rise. The premium-rigid denim piece features five-pocket styling and anti-silver hardware as well as a “Dreamed Up In Bondi” branded ribbon tied through the back belt loops to cinch the waist—one of Ferguson’s favorite styling tricks.
Made with Australian summers in mind, the Elle Short takes style cues from Ferguson’s favorite archival pieces, featuring a high-waisted and relaxed A-line silhouette. The ultra-low-rise Micro Mini skirt, meanwhile, marks the return of an “iconic Ksubi silhouette” from the 2000s that Ferguson personally owned.
Garments are finished with a removable beaded keychain, which nods to Ferguson’s “love for all things charmed,” and are packaged in a smiley-face tote bag—a reference to a bag exclusively available at Ksubi’s Bondi Beach boutique in the early 2000s.
“With Ksubi’s return to Australia, Elle was the perfect Sydney denim muse,” Ksubi CEO Craig King said of the collection. “Working with Elle feels like home, having crossed paths with her at General Pants Co. 15 years ago. Her signature denim aesthetic is timeless and exactly where we wanted to play with this collaboration.”
Ksubi by Elle is available on the Ksubi’s website and flagship stores in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, London, Sydney and Melbourne. The line is at select retail partners including Stylerunner and David Jones.
