Jeanologia’s New Creative Lab Takes a Couture Approach to Innovating Denim

The denim industry has just scratched the surface of laser technology’s full potential.

Spanish technology firm Jeanologia aims to push aesthetic and technical boundaries even further with a newly established creative lab called Denim Métiers.

The lab’s first collection, The Laser Atelier, showcases garments with couture-level textures, designs and hyper-realistic effects achieved through laser finishing.

“We want to break the traditional cliches of laser and show its true essence: a living, emotional tool with an artistic soul, capable of adapting to every brand, every designer, every challenge,” said Carme Santacruz, Jeanologia creative director, adding that denim is an “unlimited field of experimentation.”

In the collection, lasered floral motifs mimic lace, revealing delicate layers of organza. Flowers are “carved” out a black and indigo dress. Corsetry is reinterpreted in a contemporary way, with effects imitating wool and sun-faded gradients. Other intricate textures and transparencies are created by BMP files.

Denim Métiers is an opportunity for Jeanologia to add its voice to the new language brands like Diesel, Schiaparelli and Balmain are creating for denim on the runway. Unconventional surface treatments, luxurious textures, 3D effects, and layered finishing effects are increasingly being used in designers’ seasonal collections, as well as for couture.

“The future of denim is not in nostalgia, but in its ability to transform while staying true to its conscious, rebellious soul,” Santacruz said.

Each capsule will explore new narratives and techniques that align with Jeanologia’s goal to eliminate fresh water and toxic chemicals from the denim supply chain.

“With Denim Métiers we officially launch our creative lab, but innovation has been at the heart of Jeanologia since 1994, it’s part of who we are and how we work. Our innovation isn’t just about advancing techniques; it’s about creating a meaningful impact that helps others and moves our industry forward,” Santacruz said. “This project embodies that collaborative spirit, opening a new chapter where creativity, technology and shared knowledge redefine the future of denim.”
