Interloop is improving on what Pakistani farmers have worked toward for years.
This week, the Pakistan mill announced that Interloop Regen Kapas, an agriculture project that spans 25 villages across southern Punjab, has earned Regenagri certification from Control Union.
Regenagri is an international agriculture initiative that helps organizations reach new levels of sustainability. Launched in June 2020, the agriculture program supports the health of the land and the wealth of those who live on it. Benefits of being certified include verification of GHG emissions and carbon sequestration claims, data analytics, benchmarking and advisory services, and use of the Regenagri trust mark for public claims.
Interloop said the certification advances the company’s goal of 70 percent sustainable material sourcing and its transition to 100 percent sustainable cotton.
The Pakistan-based vertically integrated supplier of hosiery, denim and knitted apparel introduced the program one year ago. Working with grassroots partner REEDS Pakistan, the project supports farmers transitioning to regenerative practices that restore soil health, encourage biodiversity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
For Pakistani farmers, regenerative farming is a return to traditional methods that build long-term resilience while reducing production costs and increasing net farm income and seamless activewear,
“Regenerative farming isn’t new to Pakistan, it’s how we’ve farmed for generations,” said Navid Fazil, CEO of Interloop. “We’re simply scaling that wisdom to give farmers the tools and market access they need while restoring the soil health that decades of chemical farming have compromised.”
Since its launch, Interloop Regen Kapas has partnered with 1,000 farmers covering over 6,000 acres. This season, the program produced over 1,600 tonnes of cotton lint with full traceability through Looptrace technology. The proprietary traceability solution provides end-to-end traceability from product to the farm level.
Certifications are an increasingly important criteria for textile manufacturers seeking to validate their sustainability claims. Last year, Interloop’s apparel plant in Faisalabad received LEED platinum certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The company also earned the Alliance for Water Stewardship’s (AWS) Gold Certification for its facilities in Lahore.
